Multifocal and Toric Contact Lenses for Astigmatism and Presbyopia in Denver, Lakewood, Aurora and Highlands Ranch
Wide Variety of Contacts Options For All Your Lifestyle Needs!
Contact lenses are a popular way to temporarily improve vision without having to wear glasses. Ideal for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia, contact lenses are clear lenses that are placed on the cornea. Made from a variety of materials, contact lenses fall into two categories—hard, or gas permeable, and soft, disposable contacts.
Contact Lens Correction Options
Correction options also vary to fit your lifestyle needs. Mono vision is the use of contacts to create clear vision in your dominant eye for distance vision, while correction in the other eye will allow you to see your near work as well. Multifocal contacts work similar to bifocal or trifocal glasses depending on your prescription and visual needs. Ask your Vision Care Specialists doctor about your contact lens options! Your doctor will determine what types of contact lens will work with your prescription requirements. Each individual is different; you will be evaluated carefully to see what type of contact lens and correction method works best for you!
Gas Permeable Contacts
Hard, or gas permeable contact lenses are made of a rigid plastic and are often prescribed to patients who cannot tolerate soft contacts for some reason. Gas permeable contacts are much more comfortable than the old "hard" contacts prescribed decades ago. The newer gas permeable material allows oxygen to be delivered to the cornea and provides crisp, clear vision with a customized fit. Gas Permeable contacts are usually replaced every one to two years, and annual exams are required to confirm your corneal health is stable and the fit of your lens is perfect for your eyes, year by year.
Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses are made of oxygen permeable materials and are disposable. Many soft contacts now have a very high oxygen content that provide excellent comfort and options for extended wear if your doctor determines you are a good candidate for that wearing schedule. Specific tests can be performed to confirm your candidacy for extended wear depending on the health of your cornea. While some contact lenses are replaced daily, others are replaced every couple of weeks or longer. A contact lens exam, in addition to a comprehensive eye exam, will help determine the type of contact lens to fit your needs. Contacts To Correct Astigmatism And Presbyopia
Toric contact lenses called can be prescribed to provide correction for astigmatism and offer an alternative to wearing glasses full time. Patients who require bifocals may choose to correct their presbyopia with bifocal or multifocal contacts, or with mono vision correction. Mono vision allows your dominant eye to see clearly at distance while correcting for your near vision with the other eye. The doctors at Vision Care Specialists will explore these options to ensure your vision is clear and your eyes are functioning well in your contacts according to your specific visual needs. AIR OPTIX® NIGHT & DAY® AQUA contact lenses (lotrafilcon A) are indicated for daily wear or extended wear for up to 30 continuous nights.
Warning regarding extended wear
The risk of serious ocular complications is greater for extended wear as compared to daily wear of contact lenses and smoking increases the risks. Precautions: Not all patients can achieve the maximum wear time of up to 30 nights of continuous wear. Patients should be monitored closely during the first month of 30-night continuous wear. The maximum suggested wearing time should be determined by the eye care professional based upon the patient's physiological eye condition because individual responses to contact lenses vary. Side effects: Infiltrative keratitis was reported at a rate of approximately 5% during the one-year US study of 1300 eyes. Other side effects included conjunctivitis, GPC, and lens discomfort, including dryness, mild burning, or stinging. Contraindications: The lens should not be used when an inflammation or infection of the eye is present, or when there is any disease or injury in or around the eye or eyelids. The lenses should not be used by individuals who have medical conditions that might interfere with contact lens wear.
