Cataract Treatment: Surgery and Intraocular Lens (IOL) for Patients in Denver and the Surrounding Communities

What Are Cataracts?

When the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, the lens is said to have a cataract. Cataracts commonly occur in older adults and occur when protein builds up to a point that it begins to clump. Since the protein builds over time, many do not seek treatment until their vision is interrupted. At Vision Care Specialists, we diagnose and treat cataracts in our offices in Denver, Lakewood, Aurora, and Highlands Ranch. Our ophthalmologist, Dr. Greg Kouyoumdjian is a skilled corneal specialist with experience performing cataract surgery to replace the diseased lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Our optometrists assist Dr. K to help you prepare for the surgery and while you are healing. If you suspect you have a cataract and wish to seek treatment, contact us today.

"I wanted to thank you so very much for all the great help you gave me in preparation for my (cataract) surgery. -Mae L.

What is the Treatment for Cataracts?

Cataracts are easily treatable through cataract surgery. Though in the early stages, a stronger prescription may help you see better, surgery is the only option available to restore the clarity and quantity of your vision. A comprehensive eye exam and diagnostic testing at one of our locations in the Denver area will determine the amount of damage to the lens.

During cataract surgery, the natural lens of the eye is replaced with a synthetic intraocular lens. IOLs look and function like the natural lens of the eye. This artificial lens returns clear vision to the eye and may even improve your eyesight if you wore eyeglasses or contact lenses before surgery.

Advancements in Multifocal and Toric Implants

Vision Care Specialists provides a variety of IOLs to restore your vision. Advances in Multifocal and accommodating IOLs can now restore vision at multiple distances, meaning you will not need to wear glasses or contact lenses for the most part to see close up or middle distances. For patients with astigmatism, we offer Toric IOLs that replace the natural lens and correct the astigmatism.
