Candidates for LASIK Eye Surgery
Ideal candidates for LASIK eye surgery have stable vision, are aged 21 or older, and have healthy eyes. Patients with vision prescriptions not within the specified range for LASIK, those with very thin corneas, or those with corneal scarring are often not ideal candidates for LASIK eye surgery. However, as the technology used for the LASIK procedure advances, the range of candidates expands further as well.
Our optometrists will evaluate your candidacy for LASIK eye surgery during the pre-operative examination. We may also review your medical history to ensure that there no conditions that could prevent you from seeing the desired results. If you’re viewed as a good candidate for LASIK, an appointment will be set up for your refractive surgery and the doctor will give you important instructions to follow before your procedure. Your optometrist will also give you a packet including your consent and a map to the Laser Center. If LASIK is not in your future due to thin corneas, for example, our optometrists, or our LASIK surgeon, Dr. K, may be able to recommend another refractive surgery that fits your needs.
