Laser Cataract Surgery – Choosing Your Advanced Technology Lens

A Custom Solution for Your Eyes

Unlike traditional cataract surgery, laser cataract surgery offers advanced technology lenses for better sight. In order to optimize your vision, Dr. K utilizes the ORA System to intra-operatively measure your eye determine your refraction and select your custom fit advanced technology lens.

The ORA System has been clinically proven to improve intraoperative accuracy, reducing the need for costly postoperative enhancements.

After your eye is measured and mapped, an implant known as an intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted where the natural lens used to be. One of the benefits of laser cataract surgery is that it gives you the option to choose from a variety of advanced lenses to provide the best vision outcome:

  • AcrySpf® OQ ReSTOR® IOL – Multifocal Lens

Most IOLs can only correct vision at one distance – these advanced technology lenses correct vision near, far and in-between, for your best chance at freedom from glasses.

  • AcrySof® IQ Toric IOL – Astigmatism-Correcting Monofocal Lens

These advanced technology lenses are designed to correct both cataracts and astigmatism at the time of surgery, for the clear distance vision without the need for glasses. However, you will still need glasses for reading.

  • AcrySof® IQ IOL – Monofocal Lens

Typically covered by insurance or Medicare, these trusted lenses provide clear distance vision. However, you will likely need glasses for reading – and possibly for distance vision, particularly eyes with astigmatism.

The best outcomes are achieved when multifocal IOLs are placed in both eyes.   It usually takes 6 to 12 weeks for the brain to adapt to the new lenses and for the ultimate vision improvements to take effect. For some patients, multifocal IOLs reduce but do not eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Which IOL is right for you?
